The Nuclear Family

I am going to add the first of my pictures to this blog.  The man is my biological father and the woman my biological mother.  His name is James Aaron Bowman and he was born the 6 July 1920 in Newport, Clay, Texas.  Her name is Eulah Faye Hudson and she was born 11 April 1927 in Bowie, Montague, Texas.  They were married the 17 Jan 1942 in Bowie, Montague, Texas.  I was their first child born 18 August 1943 in Decatur, Wise, Texas.  A sister was born on the 4th of March 1945 in Morenci, Greenlee, Arizona.  This is the nucleus family and from there we begin the branching of the tree.

Grandmother & Grandfather Hudson

Faye's parents are James Floyd Hudson born 22 Mar 1895 and Beulah Bell Brooks.  James was born in Bowie, Texas and so was Beulah.  They were married in Gainsville, Cooke County, Texas.  The story was told to me that they eloped in a buggy but Beulah's father found out and chased them as far as the county line.  I have the year of his birth as 1897.  James was listed as a farmer in Montague on his draft card for WWI.  He was described as slender, grey eyes, tall with black hair.  He had a wife and one child at that time.  The child would be Alby Lloyd. James was also known as Jim Hudson.   They had seven children.  All were born in Bowie except for Velma Grade Hudson who was born in Odelle, Texas.  I am wondering if that is correct.  There were 4 boys and 3 girls. I know Clem lived in Arizona for awhile.  Joyce and Velma both lived in Oregon after they were married.  Robert lived in Georgia, California and Oregon.
James was often gone working other places.  Robert her son reports the following.  “my father had deserted eight years earlier and left her with 7 children ranging from 26 years to 8 months.”   He was never divorced from her but they continue to be separated.
Robert reports that his Dad died in 1955 of a brain tumor.  The year was actually 1956. If you know either Beulah or James please leave a comment and an email address.  I would love to talk with you.

Parents

This is a picture of my blood mother, Eulah Faye Hudson about the age of 15.  She was born in Bowie, Montague County, Texas.  Her birthday is April 11, 1927.  She was married to James Aaron Bowman on the 17 January 1942.  I was born the 18th of August 1943. My sister was born in 1945 and a brother in 1946.  She was married several other times and had two young sons that died in infancy and two boys that she raised to maturity and they live in Florida.  She was a waitress for much of her life and worked very hard.  She lived in Bowie off and on during her life and also lived in Oregon and California, for quite a while. She was living in Arizona when she decided to give up the first 3 of us to adoption.  She was very young and had three little children under the age of  4 and decided the best thing for them was a steady home with a mom and dad. She did us a great service as we have had good families that were kind and loving. When I met her in 1979 she was very excited to start a new relationship.  I have exchanged photos and stories through the intervening years.  I hope to be able to fill in the holes in my story. She died in Orange Park, Clay, Florida on February 12, 2007. If you know anything about Faye please feel free to contact me through my blog.

This is James Aaron Bowman about 1941 or 42.  It was taken from a picture of James and his brother Eldon Bowman as Eldon was leaving for the service.  He is my blood father.  I am his oldest child. He was married to Faye in the picture above. They were divorced about 1944.  He remarried and had 11 children by his second wife. I never met him nor knew anything about him.  He died the 12th of June 1997 in Bowie, Montague, Texas. Recently I have found his second family and they have told me a little about him.  I also have talked to a cousin who said he knew him and that he loved to listen to the stories "Uncle Jake" would tell. If you know anything about this man please contact me at p.lunt@yahoo.com.  Thanks so much.
